Ziggurats

from <Qocheedy Daiin> by The Far Stairs

about

The Black Ziggurats of Ur stood on the flood plain that now lies beneath the Persian Gulf. No-one dared enter them, and strange wailing sounds issued from them in the desert night. They are said to have been built by a vanished cult of holy men who met strange spirits in the spaces between the hours. The only interior decorations were silver masks with black eyes lining every wall.

They were eventually drowned by the waters of the Gulf in an event that was hinted to have been not entirely natural.
